Christine Brown’s giddiness over her new husband, David Woolley, is wearing on the patience of Sister Wives viewers. Christine left her polygamous marriage to Kody Brown in 2021 after 27 years. The couple had documented their experience living plural marriage on Sister Wives along with Kody’s other wives Meri Brown, Janelle Brown, and Robyn Brown. Together, the family shared 18 children.

Christine married Kody when she was just 21 years old. As Kody’s third wife, she had to adjust to marriage and young motherhood while also navigating relationships with her sister wives. Her marriage to Kody was often strained, and after she finally decided to leave him, Christine looked forward to beginning a new, independent life. However, her plans quickly changed when she met David.

Christine’s Sudden Romance With David Made Her Children Uncomfortable

Christine and David met online less than a year after she left Kody. They started dating in late 2022, and their connection grew rapidly. Christine and David moved in together in the spring and, to the shock of their families, announced their engagement in April 2023.

Although David made a good impression on Christine’s six children, they were understandably hesitant to accept him into their lives. Christine had already endured an extremely painful marriage and divorce. Her children worried she hadn’t had enough time to heal and learn what she deserved. The quick speed of Christine and David’s romance only added to their concerns.

Christine’s daughter Ysabel Brown had the hardest time accepting David, worrying that he would try to replace her father. Mykelti Padron, Christine’s second-oldest daughter, called out her mother’s hypocrisy after Christine had disapproved of Mykelti’s own short engagement. While all of Christine’s children ultimately supported her relationship with David, they pointed out how abrupt the new romance felt.

Christine Likes To Be “Theatrical”

Christine’s only son, Paedon Brown, didn’t hold back his criticism after his mother’s engagement to David. Paedon commented on Sister Wives that Christine had always been “theatrical” and enjoyed making a big deal out of her announcement. Paedon further threw shade at his mom when he commented that Christine and David had dated for “ten seconds” before their engagement.

While Paedon assured viewers he was happy for his mother, his criticism is valid. Christine’s over-the-top behavior during Sister Wives season 19 has grown tiresome. She giggles about her disbelief at how quickly their relationship moved, yet she brings up their rushed timeline nonstop. Although Christine seems like she’s genuinely in love, her schoolgirl antics are driving viewers away.

Christine’s Engagement Marked A Shift In Sister Wives

Christine and David’s engagement has become the main focus of Sister Wives season 19. The show followed the couple as they shopped for a home, rings, wedding cake, and Christine’s dress. The disproportionate focus on Christine leaves audiences feeling like she’s become the show’s primary character.

Kody’s four wives were previously the central figures in Sister Wives as they balanced marriage, children, and their relationships with each other. The end of Kody’s marriages to Meri, Janelle, and Christine provided an opportunity for them to show viewers how they would rebuild their lives after polygamy. But once David entered the picture, the show changed direction. It’s now mainly about David and Christine, with infrequent appearances by Kody and most of the Brown children.

Is Christine’s Over-The-Top Behavior An Attempt At Self-Promotion?

Christine’s enthusiasm about her new relationship may be calculated. She’s always had a bubbly personality, and it’s clear that she’s happier than ever after leaving Kody. But Christine is putting way too much emphasis on her relationship with David. Her new, monogamous romance is out of place in a show that was originally about her polygamous marriage to another man. The concentration on Christine and David suggests they may be gunning for their own spin-off.

The show’s new direction leaves viewers longing for updates on Kody’s other wives. Janelle has a fiercely independent spirit, and it would be interesting to see more about how she builds a life on her own terms. Meri, Kody’s long-suffering first wife, was the head of the Brown family who is now finally discovering herself. Kody’s remaining marriage to Robyn has also sparked interest, as it’s unclear whether they’ve finally found their happily-ever-after or if their marriage, too, will soon crack.

Christine enjoys bringing viewers along as she finally gets to experience everything she had to give up for polygamy, including celebrating committed love with a traditional marriage. But her obsession with David and their new life together at times feels forced. Christine is likely overhyping her new life in the hopes that, if she garners enough attention, she and David will leave Sister Wives behind to star in their own spin-off.
